Community Development & Social Work Course Objectives


This course equips students with skills and knowledge to work with communities as community workers, peer educators, community leaders as well as entrepreneurs, who can see and seize opportunities to develop community lives and livelihoods.

The students in this department are encouraged and assisted to set up community projects right from the first semester so as to gain real work experience even as they continue with their course work. To this end the previous students in the department of Community development have set up the Sunrise Self Help group in Kiandutu Slums in Thika, Continue to engange street children and youth in Thika, and assist in Out of Afrika (an NGO that centers in empowering youth through education)

Career prospects are several for those who choose a career in Community Development. Our alumni have found positions in NGO’s, Community Based Organizations, The Central and County Governments.
